All I Need Is A Ready Pen

It comes to me now

It came to me then

All I need is a ready pen

To defy the laws of logic and science

And to delve into the unconscious

The subconscious mind where none of it matters

Where all my thoughts collide and shatter

Breaking and growing with nothing to stop them

Building and building until I must drop them

From my head and onto the page

These words truly make me seem like I age

A few years wiser to the lesser known

It took a while to learn to hone

And use my gift like a present

I write and write but little comes out

That’s when my head begins to cry and shout

And then my pen begins to spout

Words and phrases I didn’t even know

About situations I’ve only heard from shows

I sit and watch as time goes by

With that pen laying by my side

Because it comes to me now

It came to me then

All I need is a ready pen

  1. This is a really great poem and this is how I feel when I write my own poetry. I don’t ever go anywhere without a pen and usually a notebook either regular or mini sized. There have been several times I have stayed awake at night because of poems that had to be written down, and once on paper, I could finally go to sleep. 🙂

    • I definitely feel that way as well. If I’m too anxious I start writing and by the time I’m finished I feel like nothing was ever bothering me. I have three journals on or near my bed at all times just in case I wake up with an idea. =]
